Elder Appointments
by MaybeSo indoing some research as to what qualifications someone needs to meet to become an elder, i came up with one conclusion: it's who you know and is very subjective.. funny thing is too, if you searc the wt online library there are not recent articles that describe and outline the requirements.
which makes me think that there were too many requirements and as we all know, it is based now on how close you are with the current co and not necessarily on being a model jw in the congo.
so the borg decided to leave it up all to the co and not tell the rest what to look for on these appointed men.. you could do your hours, be early to the meetings, be prepared, keep your car and house clean, family in good reputation, etc but if you are in the circle then you can forget it.

Separation of Powers
Years ago, I believe in the 1980's, there was a series of articles related to elders and MS. They outlined the requirements of the position and the qualities needed to achieve the "privilege." I remember, as an elder, that these articles came in real handy when there was someone that a particular brother had a hard time recommending. We would simply say...."how does he not fulfill the "explanation" given in the article?" As the PO then, I would hand out a copy of the article to everyone on the elder body BEFORE the elder meeting BEFORE the CO visit. Funny thing, even when we would make sure that the articles point were coverered with regard to any appointment, the CO would inevitably find something....It got to the point where I finallystarted asking the bros who they thought qualified and waited until the CO sat down to see who HE WANTED TO APPOINT.
You know, I guess the new arrangement isn't all that new now is it?

How would you respond to this defense made on behalf of The Watchtower's Child Abuse lawsuits?
by adjusted knowledge indetails of the society's child abuse policies have been published in jehovah's witnesses' publications, although more specific guidelines are only made available to elders, or on request.
press releases issued by the watch tower society's office of public information confirm that if a person accused of molestation repeatedly denies the charges of his victim, and there is no other witness to the incident, "the elders cannot take action within the congregation at that time", but would report to authorities if required by local laws.
our families jehovahs witnesses and child protection.

Separation of Powers
I have learned many things about this organization over the years, among them, and probably the most damning..."perception is more important than substance." 'Nuff said.
There is no need for a "policy" when innocent victims are involved...plain and simple. There is only need for action, which mean directive, not policy. This is a nightmare for the ORG and no policy will be able to address the repercussions.

CAN WE SOLVE THE MYSTERY of why Watchtower doctrines changed when they changed?
by Terry inif a person gives a police report of a traumatic event, but later changes their facts during cross-examination, these changes are used to impeach the honesty of the witness.. this impeachment flows from a logical understanding facts must match reality without contradiction.. lets examine the history of the watchtower corporations leaders with a view to the harmony of.
true teaching over a period of years from 1879-1942.. "even though christmas is not the real anniversary of our lord's birth, but more properly the annunciation day or the date of his human begetting (luke 1:28), nevertheless, since the celebration of our lord's birth is not a matter of divine appointment or injunction, but merely a tribute of respect to him, it is not necessary for us to quibble particularly about the date.
we may as well join with the civilized world in celebrating the grand event on the day which the majority celebrate - "christmas day.

@ Terry
In addition to the points you mention, ask yourself just why the organization made adjustments to the boold doctrine as it relates to "components." Could it be someone of note was in need?

What Made You Finally Wake Up?
by Tenacious inhello to all.
i've been on this site for a couple of weeks now posting here and there but have not had the opportunity to read about many of the regular members and what led up to their leaving the wt.. i understand that some of you (i'm part of this club) may not be able to disclose many details and i can appreciate that.. i'd love to hear what was it that finally made you renounce what is and hopefully soon to be "was" the wt.. i truly look forward to having good discussions.. thank you to all for your kind participation.. .

Separation of Powers
The blatant lack of love that myself and my family experienced after a major tragedy. After having given of myself selflessly for so many years to comfort and assist, and then to sit there all alone with absolutely no one, not one elder, not one supposed friend, absolutely no one did more than the cursory condolence. If love "identifies" the true religion, then there is none....
that, in addition to all the strange and unfounded doctrine that I kept putting aside through my cognitive dissonance...then, llike the floodgates of heaven (or the supposed water "canopy" that the organization attributes the flood to) opened up and as the scales fell from the eyes of Paul, I realized it was all a bunch of malarkey. A perpetual adjustment-fest to keep the masses in obedience so that the money could keep rolling in....

2 Faced JWs and Thanksgiving
by minimus inmany jws enjoy turkey on thanksgiving day and are often discreet about their indulgences.
why be two faced?
why try to excuse it?.

Turkey is cheap around thanksgiving....so are excuses of those that say they arent celebrating.

When JW's say, "the farther we get from Adam..." to explain Autism, illness etc. is it just denial?
by Wasanelder Once ini am so sick of hearing jw's blame everything from autism to hangnails on our proxemity to the existence of no-navel-man adam.
they thereby betray their own lack of personal responsibility for their poor physical and mental health on adam.
just maybe a little more work to afford a doctor visit once in a while wouldn't hurt?

The life expectancy of mankind throughout the earth is longer than EVER in the history of mankind....the farther and farther we get from the mythological ADAM.

Separation of Powers
"Be your own person. We will add your biological distinctiveness to us and serves us as the BORG. Resistance is futile. We wish only to raise the quality of life for all species. Your life as it has been is over. From this time forward you will serve only us, only the BORG. A neural transceiver is required for maximum communication. Freedom is irrelevant. Self-determination is irrelevant. Be your own person."

"The governing body at that time..."
by OneEyedJoe inso i'm listening to the regional manager give his mid week talk and he's going over acts 15 where they're dealing with the issues that arrose from the jewish christians wanting the gentile christians to adhear too the mosaic law, so some of the apostles gathered to hash it out.
it struck me, though, that he kept using the phrase "the governing body at that time" to describe the apostles and older men who decided on the matter.
once he even slipped up and said apostles, then corrected it to the gb.. i'm thinking that they've actually gone so far as to put it in his outline to make sure its beaten into the r/f that the gb's power is somehow based in scripture.

@ objectivetruth
Right on! That is EXACTLY the argument I had with my CO friend several years ago. Paul was a rogue...he had no direction other than the Holy Spirit. Words are twisted to give power to these self-appointed leaders!

If elders are responsible for the teaching, the flock---
by prologos incan you look at any of them and think, say: you taught:-- " the f&ds , the "anointed" existing since pentecost" ---you taught:.
the non-overlapping generation of 1914 ---.
the local drive to get it done before 1975*--.

Separation of Powers
Most elders do not understand nor accept the responsibility associated with the position. James states in James 3:1- "Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly."
The weight of that scripture moved me to leave the position after many serious questions about policy and doctine, particularly the policy on child abuse that is SOOO affecting the organization now.
